Best Neck Pillow Reviews For Comfort During Travel

best neck pillows for travel

We have reviewed top 5 of the best neck pillows for sleeping on flights and on long-sitting commutes. One choice stood clearly amongst the rest.

If you are a moderate-to-frequent traveler, buy a travel neck pillow. I’m saying this because I’ve had my own experience. I remember being totally unable to sleep on a 16-hour flight a couple of years back.

After a whole bunch of tossing and turning and getting a few well-deserved curses from my neighbors, I asked the air-hostess for a pillow of my own.

It made negligible difference. The pillow was so thin and fragile, it made literally no difference! So yeah, that flight was basically a nightmare.

Then, I decided to do the smart thing and get a neck pillow. It’s not as comfy as your duck-feather pillow back home but it’s the comfort equivalent for really long flights.

Let me tell you a few things about neck pillows:

Why Use Neck Pillows for Sleeping?

Sleeping on really long flights or car/bus rides is not an easy job. If you’re a frequent traveler or looking at some frequent traveling time soon, you should know that uncomfortable sleeping positions during traveling cause a lot of medical problems.

One of the most common problems faced by travelers is neck pain. A good neck pillow for sleeping will greatly help in getting rid of this problem.

Where can I Find these Pillows?

You can find these pillows easily on Amazon. Airport shops and supermarkets also carry them frequently. Some namely manufacturers you should look out for include J-pillow Travel Pillow, Bcozzy, and Cabeau Evolution Pillow.

Conventionally, there are a few types of neck pillows:

  1. Inflatable Neck Pillows
  2. Memory Foam Travel Pillows
  3. Fleece Fabric Travel Pillows
  4. Polyester Travel Pillows

Inflatable neck pillows are very cheap whereas memory foam travel neck pillows are slightly more expensive.

As for comfort, memory foam pillows are way above the inflatable ones.

Travel neck pillows come at various prices, ranging from as low as $10 to over a $100. The more expensive kinds of neck pillows are sometimes especially made for cervical pains and offer maximum comfort.

There are different designs of neck pillows for different purposes.

Neck pillows for kids usually come designed as cartoon characters.

Other neck pillows for airplane travel either come in the cervical shape for sleeping in an upright position, or in a U-shape.

There are some neck pillows these days that are shaped like collars; you will come across them in the review later.

Reviews Of Best Neck Pillows 2019

Bcozzy Travel Pillow Review

BCOZZY Chin Supporting Travel Pillow ReviewThe Bcozzy travel pillow is made of polyester fiber.

It comes in a plastic bag with no other carrying bag or straps. This is a tad inconvenient for some users.

It is still very comfortable for use on long flights and bus rides.

One more amazing thing about this pillow is that it is easily used with earbuds as well! We’re glad about this because many common traveling neck pillows are not easy to use when listening to music.

That being said, it is best for colder environments. In warmer areas, you tend to get extremely sweaty when using this pillow.

You may even feel slightly suffocated when using this pillow in warmer environments. It’s really snug and comfy for cold places though.

The defining feature of Bcozzy travel pillow is that it comes with chin support. You may find the chin support to be a bit excessive, but we believe that it is a great idea.

Overall, the pillow is not very expensive and good value for money.

We liked:

  • It has chin support
  • It is very snug
  • It is very comfortable

We did not Like:

  • It might make you sweaty
  • It also feels a bit constricting

Trtl Pillow Review

trtl_travel_pillow_amazonThis is another really warm and snug option we have picked out for you.

Just like the preceding Bcozzy pillow, the Trtl Travel pillow can also make you slightly sweaty in warm temperatures.

This is something we can’t complain about since it was designed for a colder environment.

This pillow also offers good support for both, the back and the neck.

It is made of light fleece fabric. We especially liked it because it doesn’t like the head hang forward like many other traveling pillows do.

The pillow is ideal for people with short necks and those with longer necks and broader shoulders might be slightly uncomfortable when using it.

The pillow is also difficult to fold thus it is hard to fit into compact places.

It doesn’t come with a carry case either so portability is overall not that great.

It is a slightly expensive pillow but is overall decent value for money.

We liked:

  • Snug
  • Back and Neck support

We did not Like:

  • It is not easily portable
  • It isn’t very well suited for people with long necks.

Travelrest Pillow Review

travelrest_-_the_ultimate_travel_pillowThe Travel Rest pillow is our first inflatable pillow option.

You may feel a bit awkward trying to inflate a pillow during a flight, but it won’t last for long. This is because it takes around two to three puffs to fully inflate the pillow for your comfort.

When deflated, it also becomes very easy to carry.

This pillow also keeps the neck well supported, without pushing the head forward too much.

Unfortunately, this pillow offers no back support.

It’s an inflatable pillow, which is why it’s a little difficult to adjust. People say it slides off very easily. There are certain tricks you need to be aware of if you want to use it properly.

For an inflatable pillow, it is quite expensive. But, it offers good comfort so I guess we can excuse that.

We liked:

  • It’s very portable
  • It’s easy to inflate

We did not Like:

  • Hard to properly adjust
  • Expensive

Aeris Memory Foam Travel Neck Pillow Review

aeris_travel_neck_pillow_reviewAs the name suggests, this pillow is made of memory foam. Whether that is comfortable for you or not is entirely up to you to decide!

It is very easy to adjust. Simple place it around your neck and sleep.

You might find it to be a little bulky for airplane and bus seats. This is a source of discomfort for some people.

You can use this pillow in both, warm and cool temperature environments. It is just snug enough without making you sweat too much!

It doesn’t come with a travel case, just a plastic bag. Despite that, it can be put away in compact spaces. Hence, it’s quite portable.

It also offers good neck support. People with cervical pains should give it a shot.

You might find the memory foam to have an unpleasant odor. It usually goes away with time but is quite a pain to deal with.

The Aeris memory foam pillow is a very affordable pillow and offers good value for money.

We liked:

  • It is quite comfortable
  • It offers good neck support
  • It is good value for money

We did not Like:

  • It is a bit bulky
  • It has a weird smell

Cabeau Evolution Pillow

cabeau_evolution_memory_foam_travel_pillow_reviewLet’s start with the main complaint: This pillow isn’t kind to earbud users. So if you need to listen to music when sleeping, you might want to look at the other options.

Now on the positives, this pillow comes with adjustable neck strings. So you can pull them till the pillow suits your neck just fine.

On some pillows, the strings break really easily, so try to be gentle there.

This pillow also offers really good back support along with neck support, so your spine if comfortable throughout the travel.

It is made of polyurethane material, so it can prove to be just a little bulky.

It also pushes the head forward.

Despite the comfort it provides, this pillow is quite expensive.

We liked:

  • Adjustable neck strings
  • Provides good back and neck support.

We did not Like:

  • Cannot use it wear earbuds
  • A bit bulky
  • Expensive

Face Cradle Pillow Reviews

facecradle_adjustable_travel_pillowThis pillow is a great investment because it is very durable. Frequent travelers who have been using it for years say it is still in almost mint condition.

It is also really comfortable. It is probably the most comfortable option in the whole list.

This pillow has a unique design. The design helps hold your head up while providing great support for the neck.

It even comes with a carry strap. So you don’t have to fold it and hold it in tiny spaces. Just carry it around like a bag!

It is made of fiberglass material. That is the reason for the comfort it provides. But, it is also the reason why the pillow is actually quite heavy.

This pillow is also the most expensive option in the list. It is still decent value for money considering all the comfort it offers!

We liked:

  • It is durable
  • It is very comfortable
  • Provides good posture support

We did not Like:

  • It is heavy
  • Very expensive
